Children in need from various schools of the Tibetan Government in Exile, in Tenzingang (Arunachal Pradesh), Ravangla (Sikkim) and Chauntra<\/h3>\n

The school at Chauntra, district Mandi, (Himmachal Pradesh) opened as a day and primary school in 1978 to make a school education possible for the children of Tibetan refugee families living in this region. The parents of these children had settled in the area of Chauntra in order to subsist from small-scale farming. These schools were at first supported by British charity Save the Children. The Tibetan Government in exile took full responsibility in the early 1980s. The present middle-school became a boarding school so that children in distant regions of Arunachal Pradesh could go to school<\/p>\n

\"\"The district of Tuting particularly has unusually poor economic infrastructure, with no roads, electricity or telephone network. Most of its settlements can only be reached on foot. The physical condition of children here is pitiable. His Holiness The Dalai Lama has authorised special efforts of the exile administration to enroll the children of Tuting in its schools<\/p>\n
