Our Non-Profit-Organisation was founded by a team of committed Swiss women in 1988. The Bern Prize for Freedom and Human Rights was awarded in the same year to HH the 14th Dalai Lama. He presented half of the prize money as startup capital with his best wishes.
The number of members ran to 590 at 31 Dezember 2014.
Many sponsors have more than one sponsored child, nun, monk or aged person. 1062 protégé[e]s were sponsored at the end of 2014.
Full amount
The committee and office-holders of TIBETFREUNDE (Friends of Tibet) work voluntarily. Our administrative and publicity costs are correspondingly minimal, in fact 2.7 % of the total turnover for the year 2014. These overheads are paid from member contributions. Almost all subscription money is spent on our projects. Your gifts and sponsorship payments are forwarded to India and Nepal in their entirety.
Tax Exemption
We are a society for joint development work and humanitarian aid in countries of the Himalayan region within the meaning of Article 60 ff ZGB of Swiss Law, and are therefore free of tax. For the tax-free minima and maxima of gifts and covenants within your Canton of residence, please consult internet pages: http://www.spendenspiegel.ch/sp2007/html/de/seiten/steuer.htm We can on request issue a certificate for gifts and covenanted payments made to our society.

TIBETFREUNDE supports these Project categories :
- Sponsorship for children and for aged and infirm Tibetans in India and Nepal.
- Construction and maintenance of day and boarding schools.
- Construction and maintenance of clinics.
- Procurement and despatch of medicines.
- Support for agrcultural projects.

ZEWO
The Swiss foundation ZEWO takes the position: “Individual sponsorships for children abroad are fundamentally problematic.” ZEWO therefore declines associate status for organisations supporting individual sponsorships. This decision has its basis in apprehensions which we and our project partners in India and Nepal do not in the least share.
For this reason our society has not applied for the ZEWO seal of approval.
