PA E N2 400x256The Tibetan Women’s Welfare Group’s home for old people opened in Swoyambhu/Kathmandu in 1997. About 40 aged Tibetans live there. Others visit needing care and support. The care team also visits people at home needing attention, rather like the district nurse or Spitex systems of Europe

A team of seven lives alongside the old people in this home to attend to their care and to wash and cook. A cleaner comes daily. Half of the attendants are Nepali.

All the men and women housed here are Buddhist and spend much time at prayer and religious ritual. They meet twice a day in the prayer room, and the more robust walk to the Stupa of Swoyambhu every day. This still leaves time to sit together in the sun and talk of times past

PA E N3 400x494The Tibetan Women’s Welfare Group is approximately ten Tibetan women who see to the organisation of the old people’s home. They also work at finding money in the form of sponsorships for the elderly residents, at fabric renovations and infrastructure, at procuring clothing and whatever else is needed. These efforts are necessary to keep the home running

Taking on a sponsorship supports the resident in dignity as age advances and makes the evening of their life free from financial anxiety

Costs:
